Meet Baru Alejandro Sanchez, CPA

A Record of a Lifetime of Service. A Career of Accountability

Baru Sanchez is running to bring integrity, transparency, and fairness to the Los Angeles County Board of Equalization—protecting taxpayers, strengthening oversight, and ensuring assessments are accurate and equitable.

The Journey from Cudahy to the Board of Equalization

Baru Alejandro Sanchez was born and raised in Southern California, the son of a hardworking family in Cudahy. One of five children, Baru learned early on that success is built on discipline and education. After graduating in the top 2% of his class at Huntington Park High School, he dedicated himself to the study of accountancy, earning his degree from California State University Long Beach and becoming a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

A Proven Leader for Our Community

Baru doesn’t just talk about governance; he has lived it. From 2013 to 2018, Baru served the City of Cudahy as a Council Member and Mayor. During his tenure, he was a catalyst for reform:

  • Fiscal Integrity: He cleaned up mishandled funds to save our local parks.
  • Transparency: He implemented term limits and moved elections to LA County oversight to ensure integrity.
  • Visionary Planning: He spearheaded the “Cudahy 2040” plan, introducing bike lanes and streamlining processes for small businesses and inspiration of a future downtown Cudahy.

Family and Values

Today, Baru lives in Whittier with his wife, Glendy, and their two daughters. He is running for the Board of Equalization because he believes California taxpayers deserve a representative who understands the complexity of our tax system and possesses the integrity to oversee it fairly.

Principles

Integrity • Transparency • Fairness

Sanchez will champion open decision-making, accessible public information, and consistent oversight—so taxpayers can understand how assessments are made and how appeals are handled.
